Colas - we go further

Over the years we have won multiple prestigious awards based on our approach towards our people, safety, sustainability and intelligent engineering.

Health and Safety

Colas has won multiple awards and commendations for its health and safety procedures; established over the years into a core company value. Stringent safety management processes, operational procedures, audit facilities, and an effective and efficient business in full compliance with set performance standards and BS18001 have cemented our awards success.

Safety has always been, and will always remain, a first priority for our organisation and we are fully committed to continually improving our safety systems to ensure that our business continues to attract recognition and merit from health and safety awards bodies. All of our safety procedures undergo constant reviews to ensure that best practice is sustained at all times.

The Colas (Isle of Man) Group receives Silver status

Fri, 20 Apr 2012

The Colas (Isle of Man) Group has received the Investors in People silver award following a three day assessment by IIP assessor Mick Lynch.

Investors in People specialise in transforming a business's performance through its employees. The job of an IIP assessor is to act as a critical friend so that businesses maintain continuous improvement and to help companies achieve the results they want by focusing on their professional objectives.

Assessments involve interviews with staff and aim to discover how a company can best engage its employees to reduce e.g. sickness absence/staff turnover and fine tune its leadership capabilities to increase productivity and financial performance.

During his visit Mick interviewed 41% of the IOM employees and was very complimentary about the whole operation, stating that the points scored were high enough for the Group to seriously consider going for a gold award in 12 months' time.

Managing Director, Steph Lowe, commented: "This is very satisfying and is a testament to the efforts we have all put in to make it happen. We have seen a conscious cultural change over the last three years which has resulted in this very positive outcome. It makes me, and the rest of the directors, very proud of the company and everyone associated with it."

Colas were highly commended by RoSPA for Managing Occupational Road Risk (MORR). Judges looked not only at accident records, but also entrants' overarching health and safety management systems; including important practices such as strong leadership and workforce involvement.

David Rawlins, RoSPA's awards manager, said: "RoSPA firmly believes that organisations that have demonstrated their commitment to continuous improvement in accident and ill health prevention deserve recognition. Colas Limited has shown that it is committed to striving for such continuous improvement and we are delighted to honour it through the presentation of an award."

We were recently commended by RoSPA in the Engineering Construction Industry sector. Colas Chief Executive, Lee Rushbrooke, expressed his delight, saying: "This is the highest Occupational Health and Safety award that Colas has ever received from RoSPA in this very competitive field, and is recognition for all the hard work that everyone puts in to managing and improving health and safety performance at our sites and office
